Hand Sewing a Mr Darcy Shirt but BLACK. š (Regency Menās Shirt)
āSummer is here, the weather is getting toasty, so it is time for me to ignore all of that and proceed to make a full-coverage black garment full of ruffles and sleeves. But what else is new?
These foundational hand sewing projects are always some of my absolute favorite to work on. Donāt get me wrong, I always love the thrill of late Victorian tailoring, but itās also always refreshing to go back to my reconstruction roots with a bit of pre-industrial work. Thereās such a unique magic in being able to create something with your hands in the same way that humans have done for hundreds of years. Plus, hand sewing is so delightfully portable; why sit inside the workroom when I can take my sewing to the park or out on a day trip to enjoy the nice weather? The perfect summer project after all!
In even more exciting news, this project marks our first official pattern release! Michelle of Clockwork Faerie and I have teamed up to start bringing you patterns of some past (and hopefully future!) projects so that you can try them at home for yourself if youāre the sewing type. Iām so looking forward to seeing what you all come up with; do tag me on Instagram @bernadettebanner so I can see!ā

š PATTERNS ARE HERE!

In collaboration with Clockwork Faerie, we are pleased to bring you a digital download of the original pattern used in the Pirate Shirt and Darcy Shirt videos. This pattern was initially developed according to extant 18th and early 19th century menās shirts, but this style can be worn as early as the beginning of the 1700s all the way up through the mid-19th century. Weāve also added a few additional pieces that were often seen in historical examples, as well as a few pieces that will improve the fit for a wider range of body types.
Now available in sizes 6yrs - 7XL.
