Hand sewing regency stays should be quick…right?
“It’s been about a year since I got to do a nice pre-Victorian, 100% hand sewn project— which feels about 8 months too long. As much as I love the late Victorian era (especially for my personal style), my reconstruction practice began in the 17th and 18th centuries and I always find myself growing a bit forlorn whenever I go too long without a good old historical hand sewing project.
Cue: this pair of Regency short stays, which was begun on a whim as I realised that I just wasn’t getting the right silhouette for the larger Regency project I was working on. It’s as I often say in my costume reviews: foundations are everything when it comes to reproducing historical shapes, and my own projects are no exception. If it feels like I do a lot of underwear on this channel, that’s why: there’s no outerwear without the underthings that make historical fashion so unique!
In other exciting news, this marks the first official video shot largely in our new studio space (although YouTube viewers may have got a glimpse of it in the ad spot on the last one)! I’m endlessly grateful to have had the opportunity to stay in our last extraordinary space as long as we were able, but I’m equally thrilled to be part of a new amazing artistic community at our new space and anticipate lots of fabulous projects to be made here in the future. I hope you feel right at home here as much as we do!”
